Scott Spiering is the founder and President of Anchor Bay Capital, Inc., based in Carlsbad, California. For the last 20 years, Scott has helped private, corporate, and institutional entities achieve financial independence and security, using the same principles described in The Frugal Investor—a highly acclaimed book authored by Scott. Holding a wide-range of professional securities licenses, Scott has a well-rounded understanding of various financial topics including asset management, retirement planning, and risk management as well as socially responsible investing.

Prior to owning and operating Anchor Bay Capital, Scott worked for several well-known public financial management firms, starting with Merrill Lynch where he successfully matched a variety of corporations and high net worth individuals to independent money managers. Eventually Scott went on to become a Senior Vice President and Portfolio Manager at Kidder Peabody serving high net worth individuals and institutions. Subsequently he took advantage of an opportunity to return to his home town in Santa Barbara as a Senior Vice President and Portfolio Manager with Prudential Securities.

In 1982, Scott graduated from the Brooks Institute of Photography in Santa Barbara, California, with a Bachelors degree in Photographic Arts and Sciences. After graduation, Scott moved to Washington DC where he co-founded National Digital Corporation, a compression software company enabling photographs to be transmitted over standard phone lines for publication purposes. Scott was instrumental in raising several millions of dollars from venture capitalists to fund the start-up company and was ultimately able to sell his interest in the business for a substantial profit.

During his time in Washington DC, Scott met Don T. Regan, President Reagan’s Chief of Staff. Regan saw the financial conservatism and business mindedness in Scott’s personality and persuaded him to launch a career in money management. Ultimately Regan helped Scott secure his position at Merrill Lynch where Regan previously served as Chairman. Scott became the top producer and asset gatherer in his Merrill Lynch graduating class, proving Regan’s instincts about Scott correct.

Outside of the workplace, Scott has been an asset to his country and local community. He completed a tour of combat in Vietnam and has been a member of the U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary since 1990. In 2007, Scott founded the Spiering Family Foundation, a nonprofit charitable organization that assists athletically and scholastically promising youth in achieving higher education through various nondiscriminatory scholarship programs. Most recently, Scott was nominated and voted in by his neighbors as President of the Home Owners Association for Bressi Ranch and, within the first five months of holding office, lead his board to saving over $ 250,000 a year in reoccurring expenses.

Scott's other affiliations include being an active member of the Carlsbad Chamber of Commerce and Poinsettia Elementary School PTA.
